Putin: New US sanctions meant to squeeze Russia out of Europe mkt

KRASNAYA POLYANA, Sochi, Oct 19 (PRIME) -- The latest U.S. Congressý anti-Russian sanctions mean to squeeze Russia from the European gas market, President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday during a session of the Valdai Discussion Club.

“We see more and more examples when politics interferes rudely in economic relations. Some people have just recently said that it is inacceptable and counterproductive and we should prevent it. Now the ones who said that are doing exactly that. Some people don’t even hide the fact that they use political pretexts and reasons to promote their own, purely commercial interests,” he said.

The latest U.S. sanctions “are blatantly aimed at squeezing Russia out from European energy markets,” he said.

Russia’s opponents are constantly trying to create obstacles for creation of new energy routes. “They try to create obstacles to laying new energy routes – the TurkStream and the Nord Stream – despite the fact that this diversification, diversification of logistics are economically profitable, beneficial to Europe, it serves to improve security,” he said.

Advocates of globalization tried to assure everyone that global economic interdependence will help prevent conflicts, but that did not happen.

“There was a time when champions of globalization tried to assure us that global economic interdependence will become a guarantee against conflicts and geopolitical cooperation. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Moreover, confrontation has worsened,” Putin said.
